Project Overview:
Live-Line Maintenance on 400 kV Powerlines – Namibia
Skywolff Namibia undertook a series of live-line maintenance projects on the same 400 kV powerlines previously refurbished, focusing on critical repairs and enhancements to ensure the continued reliability and performance of the infrastructure.
Scope of Work:
- Repair of damaged conductors
- Tightening of loose spacer dampers
- Repair or replacement of damaged spacer dampers
- Tightening of loose jumper spacers
- Repair and tightening of loose corona rings
- Repair and tightening of loose OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) earth bonding
Key Achievements of the Project:
- Pioneering Live-Line Techniques: This project marked the first instance in Africa where live-line work was conducted on these types of line structures using stick and barehand techniques, showcasing Skywolff Namibia’s innovative approach to powerline maintenance.
- Uninterrupted Power Supply: The full scope of work was successfully executed under live conditions, ensuring that there were no power outages or interruptions during the maintenance activities.
- Enhanced Infrastructure Reliability: The maintenance work improved the overall performance and safety of the 400 kV powerlines, securing a stable energy supply for the region.
- Zero incidents or accidents: With the company’s non-negotiable approach towards safety; strict high-voltage live-line regulations and rules were always maintained. Thus, a zero incident records was kept throughout this project.
